Prices of eggs go up

CHITWAN, MAY 31: The price of eggs has increased due to a surge in demand following a decline in production caused by rising temperatures.
The Nepal Layers Poultry Breeders Association has announced new egg prices, effective from today. The farm price for XL-size eggs (30 pieces) has been set at Rs 480. Similarly, large-sized eggs are priced at Rs 465, while medium-sized eggs are priced at Rs 435.
According to the Association's Chairperson, Binod Pokharel, despite the price hike, farmers are still unable to cover their production costs. However, he acknowledged that the recent increase offers some relief.
Pokharel explained that egg production has declined by up to 25 percent due to the extreme heat. During the summer, chickens consume less feed, leading to lower egg production and a rise in disease outbreaks.
Five months ago, daily production stood at around 40,000 cartons, but it has now dropped to approximately 25,000.
With a decreasing number of egg-laying hens and rising demand, prices are expected to continue climbing gradually.
