"Contract agreement will end if Sunkoshi Marin Diversion Project delayed"

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has warned that the contract with the contractor for the Sunkoshi Marin Diversion Multipurpose Project will be terminated if the project is delayed.

Laying the foundation stone for 64 road projects in Madhes Province under the “One Election Constituency: One Road” initiative in Janakpurdham on Sunday, the Prime Minister urged the development company to expedite the Sunkoshi Marin project. He emphasized that the people of Madhes Province can no longer afford to leave their land barren.

Stressing the importance of good governance and development, the Prime Minister remarked that delays in project implementation are even worse than corruption. He called on all stakeholders to work efficiently and with urgency.

PM Oli noted that project delays not only increase costs but also harm the intended beneficiaries, ultimately obstructing the nation’s path toward development and prosperity.

Once completed, the Sunkoshi Marin Diversion Multipurpose Project is expected to provide irrigation to 122,000 hectares of land across Rautahat, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, and Bara districts in Madhes Province. The project will also generate 31.07 megawatts of electricity.

With an estimated investment of Rs 49.42 billion, the project’s headworks suffered minor damage during last year’s floods and landslides.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Oli reiterated the federal government’s commitment to the development of Madhes Province. He called for prioritizing Chure conservation, agricultural modernization, healthcare, education, youth-focused programs, and other development initiatives, while maintaining high standards of quality and performance.

The Prime Minister underscored the need to strengthen good governance, declaring that high-performing individuals and institutions will be rewarded, while those engaged in wrongdoing will face consequences.
