Bhat-Bhateni Group to establish high-tech garment factory in Bhairahawa
The factoy will create employment opportunities for 1,200 individuals
KATHMANDU, JUNE 4: The Bhat-Bhateni Group is set to establish a state-of-the-art garment industry in Bhairahawa’s Special Economic Zone (SEZ), marking a significant milestone in the company’s business diversification efforts.
On Wednesday, the foundation stone for the project was laid by Group Chairman Min Bahadur Gurung, accompanied by entrepreneur Umesh Shrestha and other key members of the team. The inauguration ceremony included a bhoomi puja (ground blessing) to formally commence construction.
According to Bhat-Bhateni CEO Panu Paudel, this new initiative reflects the company’s strategic expansion beyond retail and sends a positive message about the improving industrial environment in Nepal. “This project is not just about business diversification; it also signals growing confidence in Nepal’s evolving industrial policies and infrastructure,” Paudel said.
The garment factory is expected to create employment opportunities for approximately 1,200 individuals, with a focus on hiring from the local community. It aims to contribute significantly to the economic development of the region.
The facility will be constructed to meet international standards and will feature cutting-edge machinery, robust health and safety measures, and an environmentally sustainable design. Notably, the factory will be powered by a solar energy system generating more than one megawatt, supported by battery energy storage.
The factory will primarily produce ready-made garments for both domestic markets—through Bhat-Bhateni’s extensive retail network—and for international export. Paudel emphasized that the project is not only an investment in infrastructure but also in Nepal’s long-term goal of industrial self-reliance and inclusive economic growth.
“This initiative expands our focus on local production, market integration, and job creation while showcasing Nepal’s potential as a competitive player in the global garment industry,” he added.
