Apex court bars transport entrepreneurs from halting public transport services

KATHMANDU, JUNE 5: The Supreme Court has issued an interlocutory order directing transport entrepreneurs not to halt public transport services or launch strikes in the sector.
A single bench of Justice Nitya Nanda Pandeya issued the order yesterday, stating that such actions directly affect the daily lives and constitutional rights of citizens. The Court has summoned both parties for a hearing to decide whether the interlocutory order should be continued.
The order follows a writ petition filed by Advocate Bimal Pokharel, who argued that shutting down public transport—an essential service—violates the constitutional rights of the public.
