Birgunj customs collects over Rs 65 billion from petroleum imports

BIRGUNJ (PARSA), JUNE 9: The Birgunj Customs Office has recorded the highest revenue collection from the import of petroleum products, totaling Rs 65.5 billion over the past 10 months of the current fiscal year.
According to the office, a total of Rs 155.94 billion was spent on importing five types of petroleum products during the reporting period. Petroleum imports accounted for 46.26 percent of the total customs revenue collected.
Chief Customs Administrator at the Birgunj Office, Deepak Lamichhane, stated that the primary source of customs revenue is the importation of petroleum products and vehicles.
The import of transport vehicles and their parts generated the second-highest customs revenue, amounting to Rs 15.24 billion, contributing 10.93 percent to the total customs revenue.
Additionally, the office collected Rs 5.25 billion from the import of iron and iron-based products, and Rs 4.55 billion from machinery and machinery parts. Revenue from electric machinery, accessories, and related parts stood at Rs 3.37 billion.
In the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, the office also collected Rs 2.87 billion from the import of various types of clothing.
Other notable revenue sources included Rs 2.23 billion from tobacco and tobacco products, and Rs 2.22 billion from cosmetics.
