Scorching heat drives adventure seekers to Trishuli River

DAMAULI (TANAHU), JULY 11:As temperatures soar across the country, people are seeking relief from the scorching heat. While the monsoon briefly appeared in eastern Nepal a few days ago, it has since stalled, and no significant rainfall has been recorded. As a result, the mercury has climbed to around 31°C in many places, making it difficult for people to spend time outdoors.

To beat the heat, many have started heading toward the Trishuli River for rafting and other water-based activities. Located just two to three hours by road from Kathmandu or Chitwan, the Trishuli River has recently seen a significant rise in visitors. Along with rafting, thrill-seekers are also enjoying cliff jumping and swimming in the cool river waters.

Tourism entrepreneurs say this is the ideal season for rafting. According to Uddhav Kandel, the operator of Trishuli Riverside Resort and Trishuli Villa, the number of rafting enthusiasts has grown noticeably over the past few weeks.

“This is the perfect time for rafting. The monsoon hasn’t arrived yet, so the river’s water level is stable and safe,” he explained. “Rafting is a popular family adventure activity, and more people are choosing it as a weekend getaway.” He added that visitors often come for rafting during the holidays and spend the night at nearby resorts and villas.

Most of the tourists visiting Trishuli for rafting come from Kathmandu, Chitwan, and Pokhara. “Some people raft as part of their Kathmandu–Chitwan–Pokhara travel itinerary. Others come specifically on organized packages from Kathmandu and Chitwan for rafting and related adventures,” Kandel said. Besides rafting, activities like sky cycling over the river have also been attracting adventure lovers.

Thanks to its proximity to major cities and easy road access, the rafting in the Trishuli River is convenient for travellers heading to Chitwan or Pokhara. “Rafting here is suitable for all age groups,” Kandel emphasized.

Rafting guide Mithun Shrestha agrees. He says the Trishuli River remains one of the most popular rafting destinations in Nepal. “Rafting through the rapids with family or friends, playing in the swirling water, is a truly thrilling experience,” he shared. Its closeness to Kathmandu and excellent transport connections have helped make Trishuli a top choice for adventure tourism.

In this intense summer heat, Trishuli offers not just a cool escape, but also an exciting blend of nature, fun, and adventure.
