Jomsom-Pokhara flight service resumes after three months
KATHMANDU, MARCH 2:The Jomsom-Pokhara flight service has come into operation after around three months. The flight transport service from Gandaki province headquarters, Pokhara, to the tourism hub, Jomsom, of Mustang was closed on November 2023 due to unfavourable weather conditions.
Summit Airlines closed its air service on December 6 last year and started boarding passengers from March 1 (Friday), informed Jomsom Airport Chief Hiron Shah. Tara Airlines which held its service since last November 26 has also prepared to resume Jomsom-Pokhara flights. “With the improvement in weather and onset of the tourist-friendly season, the Pokhara-Jomsom flight service has been brought into operation”, Shah shared. The Summit Airlines made two flights on Friday, he added.
The resumption of flight service has eased Mustang locals, pilgrims and tourists when the up-gradation was taking place in the Myagdi section of the Beni-Jomsom road stretch. The inflow of tourists is expected to increase in Mustang with the resumption of flight services.
According to the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), Jomsom, as many as 91,000 foreign tourists visited Mustang in 2023. The flow of vehicles heading towards Mustang through Beni-Jomsom road has gradually increased for the past couple of days with the steady temperature rise, informed the Chief of District Traffic Police Office, Rajkumar Thapa.
