KATHMANDU, APRIL 5: The two-day inaugural meeting of the Aid Projects from China’s Autonomous Region of Tibet to Nepal (2024-2028) in Tibet’s capital, Lhasa, concluded yesterday. Hosted by the Lhasa-based Consulate General of Nepal, the meeting centred on key topics regarding aid projects slated for implementation in Nepal.
Such topics include establishing a coordination mechanism for aid projects from Tibet to Nepal, outlining work schedules, selecting project modalities, and delineating methods for implementation and monitoring. Both sides agreed to convene aid project meetings twice in the first half of the year to focus on project arrangements and twice in the second half to oversee project implementation and review.
Emphasizing the importance of enhancing support to uplift the livelihoods of residents in bordering districts of the Northern Himalayan region of Nepal through aid projects, both parties reiterated their commitment.
The co-chairpersons of the first meeting were Joint Secretary Kamal Prasad Bhattarai from the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, Nepal, and Director General Baiman Yangzong from the Foreign Affairs Office of Tibet.
Additionally, Joint Secretary Bhattarai and the Nepali delegation paid a courtesy visit to Executive Vice-Chairman Chen Yongqi of the People’s Government of Tibet on the same day. Discussions during the meeting centred on mutual interests, including fostering socio-economic linkages to further strengthen Nepal-China relations.
The second meeting of the Aid Projects to Nepal is scheduled for next month.
