Investigation committee formed to study fire breakout in TIA
Kathmandu, Feb 12. The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoTCC) has formed an investigation committee to probe the incident of fire at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). The secretarial level meeting held here today formed a five-member team under the convenorship of Ministry’s Joint-Secretary Suresh Acharya.
Other members include Ministry’s under-secretary Rajan Nepal, Superintendent of Police Kedar Dhakal, Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN)’s Director Kul Prasad Simkhada and CAAN’s Deputy-Director Bikram Gautam. The committee is tasked to find out the reason of the fire that erupted at the coffee shop inside the TIA’s sterile area at 8:15 pm on Monday. Furthermore, it has been asked to submit its report to the Ministry within seven days, according to the press statement released by the Ministry.
The Ministry, through the press statement, has expressed sadness over the inconvenience caused to the passengers due to the incident and the subsequent disruption of the flights at the only international airport in the country. The fire was brought under control at 9: 25 pm and the disrupted flight operations resumed thereafter. No human casualty was reported in the incident although the fire had incurred partial damages to the coffee shop.
