Video conference hall in central prison
Kathmandu, sept 7. Inmates at central prison, the oldest prison of the country will now be able to record their statements before the court using a video conference. This has been possible with the construction of a ‘video conference hall’ in the Sundhara-based prison premises.
Now the inmates will be able to record their statement before their lawyers in court through video conference, chief of the prison Laxmi Prasad Sapkota. “However, the same provision will have to be made in all the courts, in order to bring this video conference facility into full operation,” he added.
The Department of Prison management has set up this facility in central prison, Sundhara, in the prisons in Dillibazaar, Nakkhu, Mahottari, Jhumka, Sunsari, Sankhuwasabha, Tulasipur, Ramechap and Ilam. The Department is planning to install such facility in all the prisons across the country, said information officer at the Department Basudev Ghimire. The central prison founded in 1971 and divided into three sections, including a women prison houses 3,129 prisoners.
