Gandaki CM Gurung applauds Newar culture
Kaski, August 17. Gandaki State Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung has said Nepal’s diverse ethnic and cultural identities remain as its invaluable property. Inaugurating a cultural Newar dance competition organised at Mahendrapul Friday, the chief minister said nation’s unique cultural characteristics related to various caste and communities living here for centuries were properties with of incalculable value.
The protection of culture would keep nation and people’s history, identity and a way of living alive, he said, adding that its protection was of all’s responsibility. The culture of Newar community is rich in terms of several aspects as it is composed of several distinct festivals, attire, fair, and skills, according to the chief minister. He expressed his hope that varied cultural expressions would help maintain social goodwill, promoting national unity amidst diversities.
Nepal Khala Kaski, the event organiser, vice chair and culture expert Tirtha Shrestha described the Ranjana Script which is used in the Newari language as the culture of Nepal, seeking its well protection. He added that a role of stakeholders concerned was vital to keep the Script protected.
