TIA runway to be blacktopped anew
Kathmandu, Feb 25. The government is going to carry out full repair and maintenance of the Tribhuvan International Airport runway from coming April 11.
The runway of the airport that has been in operation for the past four decades with minor maintenance is going to be fully changed and blacktopped.
A team comprising Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Rabindra Adhikari, carried out onsite visit of TIA and acquired information about the progress made for the blacktopping work.
Talking to Minister Adhikari said, “Activities are underway with an objective of making the TIA operations smoother by blacktopping the runaway.”
The China National Agro Technology International Engineering has got responsibility to blacktop the runway at a cost of Rs 4.27 billion.
The Chinese construction company said that it would complete the blacktopping task within 90 days. The airport, which is now operated 21 hours daily, would be opened only for10 hours daily as the task of blacktopping is very risky.
Minister Adhikari said that an action plan has been made to carry out works keeping the safety of airport and aircrafts in mind. Taxi-parking area and helicopter parking area would also be blacktopped along with the runway. Rastriya Samachar Samiti
