Objection to distribution of ID card to NRNs, foreigners

Kathmandu, Feb 21 . Lawmakers have opposed the idea of the distributing national identity card to non-resident Nepalis and foreigners.
Only Nepali citizens should be entitled to the card, they said at a discussion programme on the Bill formulated to manage national identity card and registration here today. The discussion was organised by the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the Federal Parliament.
On the occasion, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa said non-resident Nepalis would not be granted the card as the issue is under discussion.
Likewise, lawmaker Bijaya Subba viewed that granting non-resident Nepalis the card would undermine the nationality of the country. He however suggested managing social security cards for non-resident Nepalis and foreigners investing in the country to establish their identity.
Pampha Bhusal said foreigners living in the country for a certain period of time could avail of other facilities except the card.
