Department of Transport Management registers 8,000 vehicles
Kathmandu, Dec 15 . The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has registered 8,000 public vehicles across the country till Friday, a day before the deadline government set in a bid to end transport syndicate.
Earlier, most of public vehicles were registered at the transport committee. The DoTM had issued a notice as per the Vehicle and Transport Management Act, 2049 asking for vehicle registration until December 15. The DoTM warned of banning unregistered vehicles plying from December 16.
The Parliamentary Development Committee on August 21, 2017 had directed the government to allow public vehicles to ply only after being registered at the Office of the Company Registrar and then at the Department. The Department has also formulated a directive in this regard on April 1, 2018.
Only 8,000 vehicles belonging to 3,000 companies have been registered with the Department so far, said the Department’s Spokesperson Gokarna Prasad Upadhyay.
Over 200,000 vehicles were operative with their registrations at 292 transport committees across the country until July 16, 2018.
