Asia Pacific Summit begins with PM’s address
Kathmandu, Dec 1 .The ‘Asia Pacific Summit-2018’ has officially kicked off here this morning.
Addressing the inaugural session, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the 21st century should be a common initiative for favourable justice, peace, equality, development and prosperity.
Despite the progress in science and technology and communications, challenges continue to remain in poverty, illiteracy, climate change and health sectors, he said while appealing for collaboration based on Asian norms and values through the medium of international trade, innovation and culture.
As climate change is a challenge to development and human existence, efforts need to be made to stop the melting of the mountains.
Prime Minister Oli also shared about the success of the peace process, constitution making and the post-election phase of development and prosperity in Nepal.
Heads of State and governments from six countries and distinguished guests from other countries are taking part in the two-day summit being held at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Boudha.
“Addressing Critical Challenges of Our Time: Interdependence, Mutual Prosperity and Universal Values” is the theme of the conference that will see debates and discussion on various contemporary issues concerning the globe. It will end with a Kathmandu Declaration.
Heads of state and governments of various countries are also scheduled to address the inaugural session.
Separate sessions will then follow on Climate Change, Peace Initiatives, good governance and role of MPs, role of faith-based institutions and civil society, the role of media in facing the significant challenges of the day, world peace process and peace projects, according to the organizers.
The Universal Peace Foundation, the main organizer of the event, has active chapters in 115 nations around the world, including Nepal.
