Government asked to determine price of sugar

Kathmandu, Oct 4 . Public Accounts Committee of the House of Representatives has formed a sub-committee to carry out study regarding price hike and shortage of daily essentials including sugar seen in market.
Today’s meeting of the PAC formed the sub-committee under coordination of lawmaker Lekhraj Bhatta where Pradeep Yadav, Parbata DC Chaudhary, Prem Ale and Chanda Chaudhary are members.
The sub-committee has been asked to submit its report to the Committee within a week. The meeting also directed the government to determine price of sugar at Rs 63 per kilogramme.
During the meeting, lawmakers urged the government to interfere in the market, saying price of daily essentials including sugar, lentils, oil, vegetables as well as petroleum products has risen just ahead of the festivals.
They expressed concern over government’s failure to carry out effective monitoring of the market at a time when price of most of the essentials has increased.
PAC President Bharat Kumar Shah and members Chanda Chaudhary, Parbata DC Chaudhary, Parbati Kumari Bisankhe drew government’s attention over different issues including price hike.
