Police unveils special security plans for festivals

Organizing a press conference here Sunday, Chief of Kathmandu Police Senior Superintendent of Police Basanta Lama made public the special arrangement that is aimed at curbing the potential criminal activities and maintaining peace and order during the festivity.

SSP Lama shared that a total of 3,535 security personnel were mobilized in civvies as well as using sniffer dogs to patrolling and cycle vigilance to ensure safety and security of the people in Kathmandu. SSP Lama further shared that vigilance would be stepped up to curb the untoward and criminal activities such as murder, abduction, theft, burglary, pick pocketing, hooliganism, gambling road accidents and violence against women among others that could occur during the festivals.

Highlighting the strategies under the security arrangements, Lama informed that security personnel would be mobilized for the security of the places stashed riches, important trusts, temples, stupas, financial and banking institutions and trading places among others.

Likewise, surveillance would be put in place in government offices, entry points to Kathmandu, guest houses, hotels, restaurants, highways, VIPs’ residences and rural areas to ensure peace and order during the festivals. SSP Lama added, “Prudent mobilization of resources would be underscored aiming to bring to book the culprits and in enabling an easy access of the security personnel to the mass.”
