Energy Minister Pun and Deputy-Governor of Sichuan Province Peng meet
Kathmandu, May 17 . Minister for Energy, Irrigation and Water Resources Barsha Man Pun and the visiting Deputy-Governor of Sichuan Province of China, Peng Qinghua had a meeting today.
Discussions were held on matters of bilateral interest in the meeting took place at the Ministry of Energy, Irrigation and Water Resources.
During the meeting, Minister Pun said that development and prosperity were the priorities of the new government and Chinese investment was required for that. Stating that there was investment climate in Nepal, he urged the Deputy-Governor to encourage the Chinese investors to invest here.
Noting that Nepal has already signed on China’s the ‘One Belt One Road’ last year alone, Minister Pun expressed the belief that the relations between the two countries would be further strengthened in the days to come.
He also expected Chinese investment to be forthcoming in the hydropower and solar power sectors in the coming days.
On the occasion, Deputy-Governor Peng, stating that Sichuan province was very rich in the energy sector, expressed the willingness of the province for collaborating in this sector. He also said that besides the energy sector, they were ready to collaborate in the road construction.
“We are eager to also work in the construction and reconstruction besides the energy and hydropower sectors. A company from Sichuan province has started co-work with a company with government investment in Nepal for that,” the Deputy-Governor said.
Peng mentioned that there were many Nepalis in Sichuan province engaged in trade and higher studies, and urged Nepal to open a consulate there.
In reply, the Minister for Energy, Irrigation and Water Resources said efforts were being made to establishing air connectivity together with trade and education ties with Sichuan province. He also stressed the need of collaboration in the coming days as well.
Chinese ambassador to Nepal, Yu Hong was also present on the occasion.
