795 cases of rape registered in current fiscal year

 

Kathmandu, April 27. A total of 795 cases of rape have been registered so far in the current fiscal year, according to Nepal Police.

SSP Rabindra Prasad Sharma of Kathmandu said that altogether 1,131 complaints of rape cases were filed in the last fiscal year.

At a security related programme in the capital city on Thursday, he said the number of rape case could go up till the last of the current fiscal year compared to the last year.

According to Central Child Welfare Board, of the total incidents of rape case, 31 per cent of rape victims are the girls below the age of 10 while 62 per cent of such incidents are reported in between the age of 11 to 15 years and remaining other seven percent from the age of 16 to 18.

On the occasion, speakers said that strict laws should be enacted as the girls under five and sixty plus women are being subjected to rape.

During the progrmame, activists Charan Prasain, Lili Thapa, socialist Dr Bindu Pokharel, Dr Chhatra Amatya and others suggested that the contents against rape should be included in the text books to aware the college students.
