9 shot dead in an open gunfire
Kathmandu, June-18 A white Gunman Opens Fire on Black Congregation in Charleston Church man killing nine people. The police described the suspect as a 21 year old white man.
Eight victims were found dead in the church, Chief Gregory Mullen told reporters at a media conference, and a ninth person died after being taken to a hospital.
The shooting occurred at the Emanuel AME Church in the historic center of downtown Charleston around 9pm (0100 GMT), according to Charleston Police Department spokesman Charles Francis.
After the shooting, a bomb threat was reported near the church.
"The only reason that someone could walk into a church and shoot people praying is out of hate,” said Charleston mayor Joseph Riley. “It is the most dastardly act that one could possibly imagine, and we will bring that person to justice. This is one hateful person.”
