Samsung India again cuts Galaxy Gear’s price
New Delhi, Feb 2 – Samsung has slashed the price of its first smartwatch, Galaxy Gear, in India once again. The model is now available at Rs 15,290 on the company's official e-store, a discount of Rs 3,785. On January 12, the manufacturer had cut its price to Rs 19,075 from the launch price of Rs 22,990.
There is no official data on the unit sales of the Galaxy Gear in the Indian market, but Samsung in November announced that it had sold 8,00,000 units of the model globally since its launch in late September.
Galaxy Gear works only with Samsung smartphone and tablets powered by Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) operating system. It has a 1.6-inch SuperAMOLED touchscreen that is surrounded by stainless steel. Under the hood, it packs an 800MHz processor and 512MB RAM, along with 4GB internal storage. Its screen resolution is 320x320p and pixel density is 277ppi.
The Galaxy Gear smartwatch has a speaker and mic, along with a 1.9MP camera. The strap of this smartwatch is made of metal and comes in six colours – Jet Black, Mocha Grey, Rose Gold, Wild Orange, Oatmeal Beige and Lime Green.
This smartwatch can be used to make and receive phone calls, read text messages and emails, track workouts and capture photos and videos. This accessory can understand voice commands via the S Voice app. The 315mAh battery of Samsung Galaxy Gear can last for over a day on a single charge, says Samsung.
Some of the apps that come preinstalled on Samsung Galaxy Gear are Auto Lock, Find My Device, Media Controller, Pedometer, eBay, Path and Line. Other apps available on the smartwatch via the Samsung Apps menu are TripIt, Pocket, RunKeeper, Vivino Wine Scanner, Evernote, MyFitnessPal etc.
It is said that Samsung will soon the Galaxy Gear 2 smartwatch that will offer more functionalities and work with more devices. Apple is also said to be working on an iOS-based smartwatch that will be launched this summer.
