KMC to install solar street lamps

Kathmandu, Jan 17 – The Kathmandu Metropolitan City is to install 300 solar street lamps in different parts of the town as per its Ujyalo Kathmandu program. According to information given by Metropolitan Chief Executive Officer Laxman Aryal, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has provided an assistance of Rs. 380 million for this task.
Under the first-phase, solar lamps will be installed in Durbarmarg, Basantapur, Singha Durbar, Keshar Mahal, Thapathali and areas around Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).
The installation process will begin from March and will be completed within a year. Installation of solar lamps will be a slight relief for the Kathmandu denizens who have been hit hard due to excessive power outage, the Metropolis said, stressing the need of promoting alternative energy to reduce the problem of power crisis.
Three hundred more lamps will be installed in the second phase. Local´s cooperation is expected for that. The council meeting of the Metropolitan concluded recently introduced a concept of Ujyalo Kathmandu.
