Sonia gandhi likely to go Abroad for Check-up

New Delhi, Sep 2 – Congress chief Sonia Gandhi is likely to go abroad for her health check-up, an exercise she undertakes every year after the surgery in 2011.

The visit this week follows a health scare last Monday that led to her being rushed to AIIMS. Sonia participated in the Lok Sabha debate on food bill but took unwell in the evening at the time of voting. However, her discomfiture was because of a viral fever.

The check-up abroad is part of Sonia's itinerary since she underwent surgery for an undisclosed health problem in August 2011. She also went for a check-up last September.

The food bill in Rajya Sabha on Monday will be a major event on the Congress chief's watch. The assent of the upper House will bring her signature 'aam aadmi' legislation to fruition, having already been passed by Lok Sabha.

With food law becoming the focal point of Congress campaign for 2014, leaders think Sonia would look to deepen the party's ownership of it. She may also mention it strongly in the parliamentary party meeting. The departure for health check-up could follow once the campaign around the food law is sealed.
