Audi launches S6 in India at Rs 86 lakh
New Delhi, July 13 – India's largest selling luxury car-maker Audi has launched its luxury sports car S6 in the country at price of Rs 86 lakh on Friday.
The car will be available at all Audi dealerships across India immediately. The S6, a sporty version of the sedan A6, which is already present in India, can do 0-100 km/an hour in 4.6 seconds.
It is powered by a newly-developed, high-performance 4 litre, V-8 cylinder engine (with an option of driving on four cylinders also) and gives out an output of 420 BHP (309 kW) between 5500 – 6400 RPM ( peak torque of 550 Nm).
Loaded with high-end technology which makes the car feel a tad heavier than the average sports car like Audi R8 or a Lamborghini Gallardo, the Audi S6 is a sporty vehicle for city driving that offers a combination of speed, luxury and safety.
Unique in the Audi S6 is the Cylinder-on-demand (COD) technology which automatically shuts down four of the eight cylinders when they are not required, thus lowering the emission and ensuring better fuel efficiency.
The 'active noise cancellation' feature compensates for the noise interference inside the cabin depending on the in-cabin noise and engine noise.
"The S6 redefines the benchmark yet again in its segment, while upholding and building on Audi's sporting legacy," said Audi India head Michael Perschke.
"We are now happy to add the Audi S6 to our portfolio after the launch of the new Audi RS 5 Coupe earlier this month. With these launches, I am confident of consolidating our leadership position even further," he added.
The car maker continued its successful course in India with yet another good month in June and the company is reportedly considering manufacturing of its entry-level sedan A3 and SUV Q3 respectively at parent group Volkswagen's Chakan plant in Maharashtra.
With 750 units sold in June 2013, Audi India clocked a growth of 4% over the same period last year (June 2012: 718 units). For the period January to June 2013, the brand with the four rings grew by 21%, delivering 4846 units as compared to 4000 units during January to June 2012.
Audi India plans to expand its network to 34 dealerships by the end of 2013 from its existing 26 centres. In 2013, Audi India has opened new showrooms in Bhubaneswar, Lucknow and Mumbai South.
Last year, the luxury carmaker opened new showrooms in Raipur, Kanpur, Goa, Navi Mumbai, Coimbatore, Delhi West, Nagpur and Bhopal. Further developments include Noida and Vadodara among others.
The Audi model range in India includes the Audi A4, Audi A6, Audi A6, Audi A7 Sportback, Audi A8L, Audi Q3, Audi Q5, Audi Q7, Audi S4, new Audi S6, Audi RS 5 Coupe, Audi TT Coupe, Audi R8 and the new Audi R8 Spyder available across the country.
