Heatstroke claims 500 people in southern India

Mumbai, June 2 – More than 500 people have died from heatstroke in southern India, amid a continuing heatwave, this summer.
Temperatures have consistently been recorded at 45 degrees Celsius or higher and this trend is forecast to continue into the northern and eastern parts of the country.
The monsoon rains, due in May have not fallen yet due to which the heat wave is increasing. the wave has affected outdoors workers, such as policemen and rickshaw-pullers.
In Lucknow doctors confirmed a rise in the number of patients as the chance of contagious diseases, sunburns and dehydration increase.
Similar scenes have been visible in central India, where hospitals in Bhopal city have been filled with patients suffering of dehydration, with some seen attached to drips.
Without the monsoon rains the temperatures will continue unabated as June normally experiences the highest temperatures in India.
