A long wait

KATHMANDU, FEB 05 – Waiting, a collection of photographs by Phurpu Tsering Gurung, comprises 17 images, all black-and-white, combining to tell the story of the mothers in remote regions who have been left behind by children seeking better opportunities elsewhere, and the repercussions of that distance. Gurung’s solo exhibition, ongoing at the Image Ark Gallery in Patan, was officially opened on February 3 in the presence of a small group of invitees.
Gurung is a freelance photographer based in Kathmandu, who has been involved in photography for about three years now, and is currently affiliated with Back to Life, an NGO. His most notable experiences in the field include taking part in a workshop on ‘Visual Storytelling’ organised by photo.circle. This led to two stories on internal-migrant workers, one focused on Bangladesh and the other in Nepal.
Both have been exhibited, and the latter even published in photo.circle’s The Constant Change.
