Death toll from monsoon-induced disaster climbs to 124

KATHMANDU, JULY 18: The number of people who have died in monsoon-related disasters including landslides and floods that have occurred at different places of the country has reached 124 so far. Among them, two died in Kathmandu Valley, 22 in Koshi Province, five in Madhes Province, 19 in Bagmati Province, 38 in Gandaki Province, 23 in Lumbini Province, seven in Karnali Province and eight in Sudurpaschim Province, said Deputy Inspector General of Police, Dan Bahadur Karki.

Similarly, 140 people were injured—eight in Kathmandu Valley, 34 in Koshi Province, nine in Madhes Province, seven in Bagmati Province, 29 in Gandaki Province, nine in Lumbini Province, 33 in Karnali Province and 11 in Sudurpaschim Province. Police rescued 53 people—41 in Koshi Province and 12 in Gandaki Province. A total of eight people have gone missing in a monsoon-induced disaster—two each in Koshi Province and Bagmati Province, one each in Madhes Province, Gandaki Province, Karnali Province and Sudurpaschim Province.

Searching for the missing is underway, added police. The number of people who went missing in the Simaltal incident has not been included in the above list. A total of 182 houses were waterlogged due to flood water while 218 houses, 80 huts, 43 bridges, one school and two government offices suffered damages. Likewise, 584 cattle perished while 3,702 families were displaced due to disaster incidents during the period.
