Super Kabeli 'A' Hydropower Project formally starts power generation

PHUNGLING, (TAPLEJUNG), DECEMBER 4: The Super Kabeli 'A' Hydropower Project has officially commenced power generation. Developed by Snow Rivers Limited, the project has a capacity of generating 13.5 MW of electricity. It is located in Yamphudin, Sirijangha Rural Municipality-8, in the Taplejung district.

The electricity produced by the project is supplied to the national grid through the 32-kVA Amarpur substation, which is situated 31 kilometers from the powerhouse in Yamphudin.

According to Meghnath Dhungana, the project's public relations officer, the power transmission to the national grid followed a successful one-week trial run.

The project was constructed at a total cost of NPR 2.63 billion. Construction began in the second week of December 2022.

With the completion of the Super Kabeli 'A' Hydropower Project, Taplejung district now hosts eight hydropower companies.

The Middle Tamor Hydropower Project, with a capacity of 73 MW and developed by Sanima Hydro Company, is the largest hydropower project in the district.

Other significant projects include the 25-MW Kabeli 'B-1' and the 10-MW Kabeli 'B-1' Cascade Project, both operated by Arun Valley Hydropower Development Company.

Currently, over 18 hydropower projects are under construction in Taplejung. Upon completion, these projects will significantly enhance the district's power production capacity.
