212 hotels, 132 resorts, and 26 casinos receive permits to operate

KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 10 : In the country, the number of luxury hotels, resorts, and casinos is steadily increasing. According to the Department of Tourism's data for the fiscal year 2080/81 (2023/24), there has been notable growth in these sectors, with operational permits granted to 212 hotels, 132 resorts, and 26 casinos.

The approved hotels include 47 one-star, 52 two-star, 40 three-star, 39 four-star, 23 five-star, and 3 deluxe five-star establishments. Additionally, permits have been issued for 1 standard heritage/boutique hotel, 3 deluxe heritage/boutique hotels, and 3 luxury heritage/boutique hotels, bringing the total to 212 hotels.

In the resort category, the department has authorized 123 standard resorts, 6 deluxe resorts, and 3 luxury resorts. Similarly, it has approved 9 large casinos and 17 mini-casinos featuring modern gaming machines or equipment. Moreover, 3 casinos are currently operating under court-issued stay orders, according to the department.
