Bagmati bridge construction moving at snail's pace

RAUTAHAT, JANUARY 14 : The  construction of the Bagmati Bridge in the Sarlahi border area has been progressing at a slow pace. Despite nearly 14 years since the project began, the bridge remains incomplete. The contract for its construction was awarded to Mahalaxmi, Vikas, and YP JV for NPR 574 million. The contractor signed an agreement on May 24, 2022, committing to complete the work by October 26, 2024.

However, local youth Pawan Gupta has expressed concerns about the sluggish progress of the project.Gupta noted that once completed, the bridge will significantly improve access for residents of Basatpur, Badharwa, Rajdevi, and nearby areas. Currently, these residents face risks while crossing the river in boats during the monsoon season.

He emphasized that if the bridge had been finished on time, it would have made crossing much easier for locals from both districts.

Additionally, THE  erosion caused by the Bagmati River has impacted some agricultural lands towards Sarlahi.Due to these challenges, Gupta highlighted the necessity of using boats for agricultural activities. The bridge, which was inaugurated by senior leaderMadhav Kumar Nepal, is designed to be 634 meters long and has a double-lane width. According to the Postal Highway Directorate, construction work is still ongoing.
