Trade and investment linkages between Nepal and Bangladesh discussed

 KATHMANDU, JANUARY 30: The Embassy of Nepal in Dhaka organized a program on “Trade and Investment Linkages between Nepal and Bangladesh” in the Bangladeshi capital on Wednesday.

In his welcome remarks, Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari highlighted the growing economic ties between Nepal and Bangladesh, emphasizing progress in trade, connectivity, energy, and tourism, among other sectors, the Embassy stated in a press release.

He noted the milestone achievement of the first-ever export of 40 MW of hydroelectricity from Nepal to Bangladesh, underscoring the broader regional benefits of energy cooperation in South Asia. The Ambassador also encouraged Bangladeshi business leaders to forge partnerships with their Nepali counterparts and take advantage of investment opportunities in Nepal.

Speaking as the Special Guest, Chief Executive Officer of Investment Board Nepal, Sushil Gyewali, delivered a comprehensive presentation on Nepal’s investment climate, highlighting opportunities in key sectors such as energy, tourism, agriculture, ICT, urban infrastructure, health, manufacturing, and minerals. He also outlined Nepal’s strategic initiatives to attract foreign direct investment.

Executive Member of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Dr. Khandoker Azizul Islam, discussed Bangladesh’s investment priorities and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening economic collaboration with Nepal.

Chairman of National Bank Ltd. and former president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), Abdul Awal Mintoo, shared insights on doing business in Nepal and stressed the importance of deepening bilateral economic ties.

During an interactive session, CEO Gyewali and Ambassador Bhandari addressed participants’ concerns and queries.

The event brought together prominent business leaders from Bangladesh, including representatives from FBCCI and the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI).
