KANKREBIHAR (SURKHET) FEBRUARY 23: The installation of a Liquid Nitrogen Plant has begun in Karnali.

The Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture, and Cooperatives of Karnali Province is setting up the plant on the premises of the Directorate of Livestock Development in Birendranagar, Surkhet, aiming to enhance livestock productivity.

According to Ministry Spokesperson Dhan Bahadur Kathayat, the plant is being established to freeze animal semen and facilitate artificial insemination. He stated that once operational, the facility would contribute to improving the productivity of cows and buffaloes while ensuring the availability of high-quality fodder and calves.

Kathayat further mentioned that this is the first such plant in Karnali Province, which was initiated after preparing a detailed project report (DPR). The ministry has allocated Rs 40.85 million for the project in the current fiscal year.

Highlighting the significance of the plant, he added, "Liquid nitrogen is essential for storing semen and conducting artificial insemination. Currently, Karnali Province has to source animal semen from outside. This plant will help us become self-reliant in milk production."

He also expressed confidence that the facility would preserve frozen semen of high-breed he-buffaloes and bulls procured from outside, ensuring their effective use in artificial insemination.
