NEPSE surges by over 75 point

96 companies record gains, 44 decline, and 4 remain unchanged

KATHMANDU, MARCH 2: The stock market surged on Sunday, marking a strong start to the trading week. The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index climbed 75.24 points (2.67%) to close at 2,890, its highest level since August 26.  The trading volume also saw a significant boost, rising from NPR 11.39 billion on Thursday to NPR 14.25 billion today.

A total of 196 companies recorded gains, while 44 declined, and 4 remained unchanged. Notably, four sectors experienced growth exceeding 4%. The Banking sector rose by 2.53%, Development Banks by 3.88%, Finance by 4.28%, Hotels & Tourism by 4.14%, Hydropower by 1.98%, Investment by 3.03%, Life Insurance by 4.31%, Manufacturing by 4.79%, Microfinance by 1.35%, Non-life Insurance by 3.41%, Others by 1.51%, and Trading by 1.06%.

Among the top gainers, Himalayan Distillery, Guardian Micro Life, Nepal Life Insurance, Sindhu Development Bank, Dordikhola Hydropower, and Nyadi Hydropower each surged by 10%. Additionally, Pokhara Finance gained 9.2%, Bottlers Nepal Balaju 8.8%, Saptakoshi Development Bank 8%, and Shivam Cement 7.9%.

Conversely, Samaj Laghubitta saw the sharpest decline, dropping 10%, followed by Upper Hewakhola, which fell 5.47%, and Bhugol Energy, which lost 3.4%.

In terms of trading volume, Nepal Reinsurance, Himalayan Reinsurance, Sindhu Development Bank, NRN Infrastructure, and Sahas Urja led the market.
