Commercial chartered 'Pokhara-Chengdu' flight commences

CHENGDU, CHINA, MARCH 18: The first-ever commercial chartered flight from Pokhara to Chengdu, Sichuan Province, has been successfully conducted.

It, which took place yesterday from the Pokhara International Airport, was arranged by the Pokhara Tourism Council in collaboration with Pokhara Metropolitan City, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, Sichuan Airlines, and the Chinese Association in Nepal.

The realization of this flight follows continuous efforts from various sectors, including the private sector, to establish international air connectivity from Pokhara International Airport.

A delegation of 126 tourism entrepreneurs and media representatives, including Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor, Dhanraj Acharya; Pokhara Tourism Council Chair Taranath Pahari; Gandaki Province Chief of Nepal Tourism Board, Maniraj Lamichhane; and Execution Committee Coordinator of Pokhara Visit Year-2025  Gopi Bahadur Bhattarai, travelled to Chengdu to promote tourism.

At Chengdu Airport, the delegation was welcomed by the Nepali Consul General to China Suresh Raut, senior officials from Sichuan Province, and representatives of Sichuan Airlines.

Mayor Acharya emphasized that the first commercial charter flight was made possible through persistent efforts from Pokhara Metropolitan City and the Pokhara Tourism Council, especially at a time when international flights from Pokhara International Airport had yet to become regular.

Additionally, the Chinese Embassy facilitated business-to-business (B2B) discussions between tourism entrepreneurs from both countries to explore opportunities for promoting Pokhara as a travel destination.
