Birgunj customs sees imports worth Rs 390 billion in 8 months

KATHMANDU, MARCH 27: Imports worth over Rs 390 billion were recorded at the Birgunj Customs in the first eight months of the current fiscal year. This marks an increase of 11.40 percent (Rs 39.92 billion) compared to the corresponding period of the last iscal year.

According to Birgunj Customs Office Chief Customs Administrator Dipak Lamichhane, the import of petroleum products, raw soybean oil, and motor vehicles was notably high this fiscal year.

The petroleum products (five types) worth over Rs 122 billion were imported between July 16 and March 13 in 2024/25 compared to Rs 120.53 billion in the same period last year.
Similarly, the import of raw soybean oil surged to Rs 29.29 billion, a significant rise from Rs 5.78 billion last year.

The import of iron and iron products also saw an increase, reaching Rs 22.51 billion, up from Rs 21.94 billion in the previous year.
Likewise, the import of machinery and machinery parts amounted to Rs 21.67 billion during the review period, compared to Rs 18.65 billion in the first eight months of the last fiscal year (2023–24).

Motor vehicle imports stood at Rs 11.68 billion, up from Rs 10.10 billion in the corresponding period of the last fiscal.
