Govt. removes age limit for NRB Governor appointment

KATHMANDU, MARCH 31: The government has amended the criteria for appointing the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB). The tenure of the current Governor, Maha Prasad Adhikari, is set to end on the upcoming April 6.

As the process of appointing a new Governor is underway, the government has revised the eligibility criteria by removing the age limit. Previously, the maximum age for appointment was set at 65 years, but this restriction has now been lifted, allowing individuals above 65 to be considered for the position.

Clause 3(c) of the criteria previously specified that the executive heads of public institutions under the ministry must be at least 30 years old and not exceed 65. This provision has now been removed.

The appointment criteria under the Ministry of Finance, established in 2073 BS, have been amended accordingly. Clause 3, which outlines the qualifications for appointing the Governor, originally included sub-clauses (a), (b), and (c). However, sub-clause (c), which imposed the age limit, has now been eliminated.
