Government Policies and Programs garner mixed reaction

KATHMANDU, MAY 15: Leaders of various political parties have given mixed reactions to the policies and programs of the government for the upcoming financial year. President Ramchandra Paudel tabled the policy and programs at the joint sitting of the Federal Parliament yesterday.

The parliamentarians of the ruling party have defended the program, calling it positive and transformative, while leaders of the opposition party describe it as conventional and not so promising.

CPN (Maoist Center) leader Madhav Sapkota said that the policies and programs are generally good, emphasizing their implementation. Stating that self-employment programs and initiatives focused on youth are positive, MP Sapkota highlighted the importance of aligning the budget with the policies and programs and ensuring the government’s commitment to their implementation.

Vice-president of Rashtriya Swatantra Party, Dr. Swarnim Wagley, stated that dozens of reforms have been proposed, and the likelihood of their integration with the budget has increased. He emphasized that the ideas outlined in the policies and programs need to be actualized through the budget.

CPN (US) leader Rajendra Pandey described the policy and program as a routine annual duty. “The policy program is not designed to inspire people or address the current political situation,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the leader of the main opposition, NC, Chandra Bhandari, remarked that the policies and programs have included similar themes for the 34 years of the multi-party system in Nepal. “If only 20 percent of the policies and programs are implemented, the country will take significant strides towards prosperity,” he added.
