Binod Chaudhary to be quizzed by CBI on land scam
KATHMANDU, MARCH 17: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of the Nepal Police is preparing to interrogate controversial businessperson Binod Chaudhary on the land scam related to Bansbari Leather and Shoe Factory. Minister for Home Rabi Lamichchane is reported to have directed the CBI in this regard.
In connivance with politicians and administrative officials, the Chaudhary Group (CG), which is presided over by Binod, captured 10 ropanis of land belonging to the shoe factory some 37 years back. The ownership of the property is registered under the name Chandbadh Residency Pvt Ltd possessed by the younger brother Arun Chaudhary and his spouse- Sheela.
Arun, also Managing Director of CG Holdings ( under the group; Narayan Singh Thapa, the Executive Chairman of Bansbari Shoe Factory Limited; and Sanjay Thakur, the Managing Director of CG Chandbag Residence, were nabbed on February 1 on the charge of seizing the said land.
Nevertheless, they were released on February 7 as per the verdict of the Kathmandu District Court . The verdict is widely believed to have been furtively influenced by the Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal and his family members.
