Nepal exports handicrarfts worth Rs 12 billion

KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 12: Nepal is exporting handicrafts worth Rs 12 billion in a year. It was informed at a press meet held on the eve of the 20th handicrafts trade fair and 18th handicrafts competition to be organized by Nepal Handicrafts Federations on Monday.
Federation’s Chairman Prachanda Shakya informed that the handicrafts made in Nepal were exported to over 60 countries. Nepali handicrafts have a significant contribution to the national economy, thus, warranting special attention from the government and others concerned for its protection and promotion, he stressed.
The Federation is holding the 18th handicrafts competition and 20th trade fair at Hotel Annapurna, Durbar Marg, from December 14 to 18. There will be three pavilions with 130 stalls. It is expected that the fair will record more than 100 thousand visitors, according to organizers. Anyone securing the first position in the competition will get a cash prize of 50,000, while the second one Rs 30,000 and the third is Rs 20,000. Similarly, 10 senior citizens and noted artists over 70 years would be honoured on the occasion.
