DAO of Parsa addresses 438 cases related to loansharking
BIRGUNJ (PARSA), NOVEMBER 27: The District Administration Office (DAO) of the Parsa district has addressed 438 cases related to loansharking out of a total of 1,321 complaints received. The cases were resolved through mutual discussions, bringing justice to the victims. In instances where mutual understanding was lacking, legal proceedings were initiated for two cases.
The majority of complaints were related to issues involving borrowing money and land. Some cases involved deception during the loan acquisition process, with discrepancies between the documented and actual loan amounts received.
In July of the same year, the parliament passed a bill recognizing usury as a criminal offense, primarily addressing the issue prevalent in the Terai region. This legislative step was taken following a five-point agreement between the government and victims of loan sharks in April.
