Price hike declines by almost 3 percent

KATHMANDU, MARCH 10: In the last Nepali month of Magh (January 15 to February 12), consumer price inflation fell by 2.87 percent to 5.01 percent. This was revealed by the current Macroeconomic and Financial Situation Report on the last seven months of the current fiscal published today by the Nepal Rastra Bank.

In the review month, the inflation rate of the food and beverage category stood at 6.51 percent whereas the same rate for the non-food and service category was recorded a 3.85 percent.

Under the food and beverage category, the y-o-y consumer price index of the sub-categories of spices, cereal grains and their products, milk products and eggs,  and vegetables increased 32.11 percent, 11.15 percent, 10.78 percent and 7.58 percent respectively.  Conversely, there was a price hike of 12.33 percent in the ghee and oil sub-category.

Under the non-food and services category, the y-o-y consumer price index of the sub-categories of recreation and culture, miscellaneous goods and services and education went up by 12.61 per cent, 9.15 percent and 7.31 percent respectively. In contrast, the inflation rate of the transportation sub-category decreased 1.41 percent in the review month.
