Happy Father’s Day ‘Buwa’
Kathmandu, August 29. ‘Buwa’ a short film by Kamal Subedi and his team has won first prize in the Ncell Short Film Competition organised by Ncell Pvt. Ltd. with the theme Buwa: A series of short films on its social media platform.
On the occasion of Father’s Day, Ncell had launched the competition in the first week of August. The main aim of this competition was to promote budding young talents in film making. With over 70 entries from all over Nepal, the panel of judges selecting 10 best films and winners was no easy task. There were founder of QFX Cinema and producer Nakim Uddin, film maker Asif Shah and journalist Bidhya Chapagain in the panel of judges.
The main objective of the competition was to create a platform for rising talent thereby getting crowd-sourced shareable content and celebrate the day with customers. The top 10 short movies were screened amid a premiere show at QFX Cinemas, Labim mall, Pulchowk on Wednesday evening attended by artists, celebrities, veteran figures from Nepali film industry, partners and press.
The entries and selected films highlighted the creativity and unique skills in storytelling by displaying the relationship with one’s father. Ncell will release the top 10 films throughout the day on Father’s Day on social media platforms. “It is very good talent that they have been able to share story in such a short time. This is a medium to learn and I hope to see them in big screen in future,” said veteran artist Hari Bansha Acharya in the premiere show.
On the same event, best short film makers were announced and awarded with the attractive prizes. Ncell’s Chief Technology Officer Muhammad Adeel Israr handed over the prizes to Best Short Film, First Runner Up, Second Runner Up and Consolation prizes to two short movies.
“The panel of judges selected winners based on how effective is story and how has it been presented. Since they are amateur, we did not go too much into technicalities,” Shah, who was one of the jury members.
‘Buwa’ by Kamal Subedi and his team won the first prize that carries a purse of Rs 100,000 cash prize and 10 GB data for free to three crew members of the group each months for 12 months. His team will get a chance to experience shooting with film maker Shah.
‘The End of Culture’ a film by Bishal Neupane and his team became first runner up and bagged Rs 75,000 cash prize and 10 GB data for free to three team members each month for 12 months. Similarly, The Next Level Production’s ‘Old Age Home’ won second runner up prize. This prize carries a purse of Rs 50,000 and 10 GB data to three members of the team for free each month for 12 months.
Nischal Karki, one of the members of the team that won first prize said that they worked on the story three years ago and wanted to show a social problem on why people leave their parents in old age homes.
Raja Maharjan’s ‘Buwa’ and a short film by Rising Star Nepal ‘Dad, Son and Laptop’ each won consolation prizes which include Rs 25,000 in cash prize and 10 GB data for free to three team members each month for a period of 12 months.
