Some historic achievements made in energy development: Energy Minister
KATHMANDU, JULY 14: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Shakti Bahadur Basnet, highlighted significant and quality developments in the energy sector during his farewell address at the Ministry. He emphasized that the long-term power trade agreement and the agreement to supply 10,000 megawatts of electricity to India were major accomplishments of his term, capable of opening avenues for national prosperity and strengthening the economy.
During his tenure, several key projects were completed, including the Dhalkebar-Inaruwa 400 kV transmission line and multiple substations and transmission line projects. He noted that accelerating national pride projects and expanding irrigation facilities were priorities, with plans to extend irrigation to an additional 1,000,000 hectares of land.
Minister Basnet also mentioned that works are in the final phase to implement the Upper Arun and Dudhkoshi Hydropower Projects. He pledged full cooperation in the continued implementation of these projects despite moving to a different position.
Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Secretary Sarita Dawadi and Secretary of the Water and Energy Commission Keshab Kumar Sharma were also present at the event.
