Super zone programme to increase agro products

KIMATHANGLA, AUGUST 18: An agricultural project is being carried out with the introduction of modern technology, particularly aimed at increasing the production of cash crops and fruit.

The Sankhuwasabha and Bhojpur districts have implemented the project by declaring themselves as cardamom and orange super zones. The project, launched 6 years back, is being implemented at 10 local levels in Sankhuwasabha and six local levels in Bhojpur, according to Navraj Gurung, chief of the Prime Minister's Agriculture Modernization Project Implementation Unit.

The program covers 2,313 hectares of land for the cardamom super zone and 687 hectares for the orange super zone. Project Unit Chief Gurung mentioned that irrigation infrastructure and the construction of improved modern cardamom furnaces were prioritized this year to increase cardamom and orange production in the super zones.

In the current fiscal year, Rs. 2 million has been allocated for capital expenditure and Rs. 40 million for current expenditure.

Similarly, the Project Implementation Unit in Sankhuwasabha has prioritized irrigation infrastructure, modern furnace construction, and connection programs for the current year.

It was shared that Rs. 7 million has been allocated for the construction of irrigation infrastructure, Rs. 4.6 million for the construction and installation of modern furnaces, Rs. 2.5 million for the establishment of a cardamom crop primary processing industry, Rs. 2.1 million for the establishment of mini moisture storage for oranges, and Rs. 2.1 million for the expansion of the orange crop zone.

Additionally, 24 other programs have been approved for the current year. The Cardamom Super Zone program is being conducted in 32 wards under 10 local levels in Sankhuwasabha and in 30 wards under six local levels in Bhojpur.

The Prime Minister's Agriculture Modernization Project, through its Project Implementation Unit, has been providing support to farmers in various agricultural sectors, including cardamom, oranges, rice, corn, wheat, potatoes, vegetables, and fisheries.
