Around 1.5 billion securities listed at NEPSE

KATHMANDU, AUGUST 22: In the last fiscal year 2023/24, a total of 1 billion 499 million and 287 thousand securities were listed on the secondary market. This data was included in the annual report recently released by the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE).

Among the total listed securities, Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) numbering 520 million and 496 thousand accounted for the largest portion.  Similarly, 207 million and 518 thousand bonus shares were listed, along with 18 million and 580 thousand debentures,  219 million 767 thousand rights shares, and 533 million 47 thousand mutual fund units.

Looking at these statistics, the number of debentures appears to be lower in the last year compared to the previous years. In such years, they issued debentures that were equivalent to 25% of their paid-up capital. However, last year, with the banks focusing more on distributing bonus shares rather than dividends, the issuance of debentures decreased.

Additionally, the lower approval of public issues compared to the previous years led to a decrease in supply in the secondary market in 2022/23, according to experts.
