WHO announces Dhulikhel as Nepal's first 'healthy city'
KAVREPALANCHOWK, AUGUST 27: The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced Kavrepalanchowk's town, Dhulikhel, as the first 'healthy city' of Nepal. Meeting the WHO-set criteria, Dhulikhel has successfully received a reward of $5,000 for being the second healthiest city in Asia.
Programme Coordinator of the WHO Department of Ethics and Social Determinants, Dr. Suvajee Good, announced yesterday that Dhulikhel is Nepal's first healthy city and the second healthy city in Asia. With this announcement, Dhulikhel was awarded $5,000.
India's Pune City Banda is the first healthy city in Asia, and Dhulikhel has been declared second with a score of 65.48.
Dhulikhel Mayor Ashok Kumar Byanju stated that the city has been recognized as the second healthy city in Asia, the first in Nepal, and has received a prize of $5,000.
The announcement was based on policy reforms in the health sector, progress toward sustainable development goals in the health sector, environmental improvements, access to healthcare for poor citizens, advancements in addressing chronic and communicable diseases, improvements in community health, and progress made in primary healthcare by the local government.
