Properties worth Rs 300 million of telecom, internet providers damaged

KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 2 : Properties worth approximately Rs 300 million belonging to telephone and internet service providers were damaged due to landslides, floods, and inundation triggered by the recent incessant rainfall in the country.

According to the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA), while detailed assessments of losses from internet service providers are yet to be received, preliminary estimates indicate that property worth around Rs 220 million belonging to two major telephone service providers—Nepal Telecom and Axiata Limited (Ncell)—has been damaged.

The disaster caused damages amounting to Rs 150 million for Nepal Telecom, while Ncell incurred losses of around Rs 7 million.

"Details of damages from 15 internet service providers have been collected so far. It is estimated that property worth approximately Rs 70 million belonging to these companies has been affected," stated Dr. Pradip Paudyal, Assistant Spokesperson of the NTA.

Telephone and internet services in many areas of the country were disrupted due to power supply obstructions caused by landslides, flooding, lightning, and inundation, he shared.

Paudyal added that telecommunication services are being gradually restored as power supply resumes in the affected area
