Rain-induced disaster claims 246 lives so far

KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 8: A total of 246 people have lost their lives due to natural disasters, including landslides, flooding, and inundation, following incessant rainfall from September 26 to 28 across the country. According to details released by Nepal Police today, 178 individuals sustained injuries, while 18 people remain missing.

Home Ministry spokesperson Rishiram Tiwari reported that 1,774 people were rescued. The disasters have caused severe damage to human lives and property, particularly in Bagmati Province, where 139 fatalities were recorded. Relief funds were distributed to 176 families in accordance with the 'Disaster Victim Rescue and Relief Guidelines, 2077.' Tiwari noted that efforts are underway to provide financial assistance and relief materials to the affected families.

A team led by the Home Minister has been directed to expedite the distribution of relief and the reconstruction efforts to ensure effective emergency assistance and rehabilitation. The ministry is also working on restoring vehicular movement by making alternative arrangements and clearing obstacles along various highways.
