Over 63,000 passengers travel via TIA in two days of Dashain

KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 13: Over two days of the Dashain festival, a total of 63,242 people traveled via Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). Both domestic and international flights operated during the days of Phulpati and Mahastami/Mahanawami. This year, Maha Astami and Mahanawami were observed on the same day.

According to TIA Spokesperson Rinji Sherpa, on Phulpati (October 11), 17,329 domestic passengers traveled on 301 flights. On Maha Astami/Mahanawami (October 12), 14,436 passengers took 278 domestic flights, bringing the domestic total to 31,765 passengers.

For international flights, 16,509 passengers traveled on 107 flights (both arrivals and departures) on October 12, followed by 14,968 passengers on the same number of flights the next day, totaling 31,477 passengers for international services.

Earlier, on September 30, TIA recorded 559 flights (domestic and international combined) in a single day, with 35,704 passengers. This surge in demand followed severe flooding and landslides caused by continuous rainfall on September 27-28, disrupting road transportation.

Between September 29 and October 2, the terminal at TIA was overcrowded due to the increased passenger flow after the disasters. TIA has since confirmed that flight schedules have returned to normal.
