Over Rs 28 billion spent on foreign education in 2 months of current FY

KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 16: In the first two months of the current fiscal year 2081/82 (2024/25), more than Rs 28.16 billion was transferred abroad for students pursuing higher education. According to data from the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), this amount was spent during the months of Shrawan (mid-July to mid-August) and Bhadra (mid-August to mid-September) alone.
In comparison,Rs 23.33 billion was spent in the same period of the previous fiscal year. The increasing number of students opting for education abroad has accelerated the outflow of currency. In Shrawan alone, NPR 14.92 billion was sent abroad for educational purposes.
NRB’s data also reveals that Nepal spent a total of Rs 125.13 billion on foreign education in the previous fiscal year 2079/80 (2022/23), marking a 24% increase from the year before
